If you’ve ever looked into the differences between miter gears, you’re probably wondering how to choose between a Straight toothed and Hypoid one. Backlash is the difference between the addendum and dedendum, and it prevents jamming of the gears, protects the mating gear surfaces, and allows for thermal expansion during operation.

Spiral bevel gears
